The Mojito – An Authentic Recipe

This recipe is made for a single serving, but it can be adjusted to make a full pitcher. During the hot summer, this makes for a refreshing break. (Tonic water can be substituted for the soda water, just be aware that the taste is somewhat altered and a little bitter.)

How to Make a Mojito

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 fluid ounces of white rum
  • 1/2 cup club soda
  • 10 fresh mint leaves
  • 1/2 lime, cut into 4 wedges
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar, or to taste
  • 1 cup ice cubes

Put the mint leaves and 1 lime wedge into a smallish Collins glass. Use a muddler to crush the lime and mint, which releases the mint oils and lime juice. Add 2 more wedges of lime and the sugar, and again muddle to free the lime juice. Do not strain this mixture. Fill the glass with ice (almost near the top) Over the Ice, pour the rum and fill with carbonated water. Stir and taste your concoction. If it needs more sugar then add it if desired. Garnish your drink with one final lime wedge.
